하나님의 권능 앞에 무너지는 세상의 거짓들 | When the World’s Lies Collapse before God’s Power (출 7:7–8:19)

하나님은 모세에게 다시 사명을 부어주십니다. 입술이 둔하다는 모세의 약함에도 불구하고, 하나님은 아론을 대언자로 세워 함께 바로 앞에 서게 하십니다. 그리고 “지팡이를 던져 뱀이 되게 하라”고 명하십니다. 이적은 단순한 기적이 아니라 하나님이 보내신 사자임을 증명하는 표적이었습니다.

바로 앞에서 아론의 지팡이가 뱀이 되었을 때, 애굽의 요술사들도 비슷한 일을 흉내 냈습니다. 그러나 그것은 최면술과 속임수에 불과했습니다. 결국 아론의 지팡이가 그들의 지팡이를 삼킴으로써 하나님께서 애굽의 신들과 권세보다 더 높으신 분임을 드러내셨습니다. 바로가 머리에 쓰던 코브라 형상의 왕관—권위의 상징마저도, 하나님의 권세 앞에서는 아무것도 아니었습니다.

세상에는 수많은 권위와 능력이 존재하지만, 하나님의 권위 앞에서는 모두 무력합니다. 우리가 의지할 분은 오직 하나님 한 분뿐입니다.

God reaffirms His calling to Moses. Despite Moses’ weakness—“slow of speech”—God appoints Aaron as his spokesman so they may stand before Pharaoh together. He commands, “Throw down the staff, and it will become a serpent.” The sign is not a mere wonder; it is God’s credential that He has sent His messengers.

When Aaron’s staff became a serpent, Egypt’s magicians imitated something similar, yet it was only sleight of hand. In the end, Aaron’s staff swallowed their staffs, revealing that God is above Egypt’s gods and powers. Even Pharaoh’s cobra diadem—his symbol of authority—was nothing before the power of God.

Many powers exist in the world, but all are powerless before God’s authority. The only One we trust is God Himself.

말씀은 인생의 등불

하나님은 모세에게 바로를 찾아가 무엇을 어떻게 할지 하나하나 가르치셨습니다. 우리는 모세처럼 직접 음성을 듣기 어렵지만, 지금 우리 앞에 있는 말씀으로 뜻을 분별할 수 있습니다. 그러므로 시편 기자의 고백처럼, “주의 말씀은 내 발의 등이요 내 길의 빛”입니다(시 119:105). 어두운 길에서 기도로 말씀을 붙들 때, 우리의 삶은 헛된 길로 가지 않습니다.

The Word Is the Lamp of Life

God told Moses precisely what to do before Pharaoh. We may not hear an audible voice as Moses did, yet we discern God’s will through the Word open before us. As the Psalmist confesses, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Ps 119:105). In darkness, when we pray and hold fast to Scripture, our steps will not be wasted.

⚡ 피 재앙 — 하나님 외에는 생명의 근원이 없다

바로가 매일 아침 나일강의 신에게 제사드릴 때, 하나님은 그 강을 피로 변하게 하십니다. 생명의 상징이던 강이 한순간에 죽음의 강이 되었습니다. 애굽이 섬기던 신은 무력했고, 풍요의 주권은 오직 하나님께 있음을 드러내셨습니다. 우리가 의지하는 권력과 재물도 마찬가지입니다. 하나님이 거두시면 모두 사라질 것들입니다.

⚡ Plague of Blood — No Source of Life but God

While Pharaoh offered morning rites to the Nile’s deity, God turned the river into blood. What symbolized life became death in an instant. The gods of Egypt were powerless; the sovereignty of provision belongs to God alone. So it is with power and wealth we rely on—if God withdraws, they vanish.

🐸 개구리 재앙 — 순종이 유일한 길

개구리는 애굽에서 풍요의 상징이었지만, 온 땅을 뒤덮고 죽어 악취가 되었습니다. 우상을 의지하는 교만의 결말입니다. 바로는 모세에게 중보를 요청하면서도, “언제?”라는 질문에 “내일”이라고 답합니다. 순종을 미루면 고통만 길어질 뿐입니다. 순종은 내일이 아니라 지금입니다. 모세가 기도하자 재앙이 그쳤습니다. 막다른 골목에서 하나님의 백성은 기도합니다.

🐸 Frogs — Obedience Is the Only Way

Though frogs symbolized fertility, they swarmed Egypt and died, stinking across the land—an end befitting idolatrous pride. Pharaoh asked Moses to intercede but answered “Tomorrow” when asked “When?” Delayed obedience prolongs suffering. Obedience is for now, not later. When Moses prayed, the plague ceased. At dead ends, God’s people pray.

🪳 이 재앙 — 인간의 한계와 하나님의 권능

땅의 티끌이 이(혹은 진드기/각다귀)가 되는 세 번째 재앙에서, 요술사들은 따라 하지 못하고 고백합니다. “이는 하나님의 권능이니이다”(출 8:19). 작은 벌레 하나로도 하나님은 큰 나라를 흔드십니다. 우리는 이해하지 못해도 하나님의 섭리는 완전합니다. 그러나 바로는 그 고백마저 거부했습니다. 교만은 멸망으로, 겸손은 생명으로 인도합니다.

🪳 Gnats/Lice — Human Limits and God’s Power

In the third plague, dust became gnats (or lice/midges). Egypt’s magicians failed to replicate it and confessed, “This is the finger of God” (Ex 8:19). With even the smallest creatures, God can shake a great nation. Though we may not understand, His providence is perfect. Pharaoh rejected even this confession. Pride leads to ruin; humility to life.
