모세는 하나님께 다섯 번이나 소명을 거절했지만, 끝내 하나님의 부르심을 피해갈 수 없었습니다. 하나님은 모세의 연약함을 아셨기에 그에게 능력과 권능을 주시고, 말이 서툰 그를 위해 형 아론을 동역자로 붙여주셨습니다. 광야에서 만난 두 사람은 하나님의 명령을 나누며 함께 사역의 길로 나아갑니다.

모세에게 중요한 것은 능력이 아니라 믿음이었습니다. 하나님이 함께하신다면 부족함은 문제가 되지 않았습니다. 결국 모세와 아론은 하나님의 이름으로 애굽 왕 바로 앞에 서게 됩니다. “내 백성을 보내라!” 이 외침은 단순한 인간의 말이 아니라, 하나님이 친히 말씀하신 명령이었습니다. 두려움은 있었지만 그들은 하나님의 약속을 믿고 담대히 나아갔습니다.

그러나 바로는 하나님의 이름을 조롱합니다. “여호와가 누구이기에 내가 그의 목소리를 듣겠느냐?” 그는 세상의 권세를 믿었고, 하나님을 무시했습니다. 하지만 바로의 교만은 결국 그 자신과 나라 전체를 재앙으로 몰아넣습니다. 하나님보다 자신의 힘을 앞세운 교만은 결국 심판으로 이어집니다. 높은 자리에 있을수록, 더 많은 능력을 가질수록 우리는 더욱 겸손히 하나님을 의지해야 합니다.

모세와 아론은 백성이 하나님께 제사를 드리게 해달라고 간청했지만, 바로는 오히려 그들의 노역을 더 무겁게 만들었습니다. 이전보다 더 가혹한 명령이 내려지고, 백성들은 짚을 직접 구해 벽돌을 만들어야 했습니다. 억압은 심해졌고, 모세를 향한 불신과 원망도 깊어졌습니다. 그러나 하나님은 여전히 그 과정을 통하여 약속을 이루어가고 계셨습니다.

우리의 삶에도 이런 시간이 있습니다. 하나님을 믿고 순종하려 하지만 상황은 더 어려워질 때가 있습니다. 그러나 그때야말로 하나님의 약속이 이루어지는 과정임을 기억해야 합니다. 눈앞의 현실이 힘들더라도, 그 길 끝에는 반드시 하나님의 선하신 계획이 있습니다.

이스라엘 백성은 어려움 속에서 하나님이 아닌 바로에게 도움을 구했습니다. 하지만 진정한 도움은 세상의 권세자가 아니라 하나님께로부터 옵니다. 어린아이가 어려움에 처했을 때 부모에게 달려가듯, 믿는 자는 언제나 하나님께 달려가야 합니다. 하나님은 우리의 형편을 아시며, 우리보다 우리를 더 잘 아시는 분이십니다.

이후 백성들은 모세를 원망하기 시작합니다. “당신들 때문에 우리가 더 고통당한다”고 말하며 불평했습니다. 그러나 하나님은 여전히 그들의 불신 속에서도 일을 진행하고 계셨습니다. 믿음의 여정에는 언제나 시련이 있습니다. 그러나 그 시련을 통과한 후에는 반드시 하나님의 놀라운 은혜와 축복이 기다리고 있습니다.

• 하나님은 우리의 부족함을 채우시며, 함께하심으로 사명을 완성하신다.
• 교만은 하나님의 역사를 가로막지만, 겸손은 은혜의 문을 연다.

Moses refused his calling five times, yet he could not escape the Lord’s summons. God knew Moses’ weakness, so He gave him power and signs, and paired him with his brother Aaron as a co-laborer for the sake of his faltering speech. Meeting in the wilderness, the two shared God’s command and stepped onto the path of ministry together.

For Moses, what mattered was not ability but faith. When God is with us, our lack is not decisive. At last, Moses and Aaron stood before Pharaoh in the name of the Lord. “Let My people go!” This cry was not merely human speech; it was God’s own command. Though they felt fear, they trusted God’s promise and spoke with boldness.

Pharaoh mocked the name of God: “Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice?” He trusted worldly power and despised the Lord. Yet his arrogance hurled himself and his nation into calamity. Pride that exalts human strength over God always ends in judgment. The higher we rise and the more we possess, the more humbly we must depend on God.

Moses and Aaron pleaded that the people might worship God, but Pharaoh increased their burden instead. Harsher orders were issued; the people had to gather straw themselves and still meet the same quota. Oppression deepened, as did suspicion and complaint toward Moses. Yet even through that process God was fulfilling His promise.

We experience such seasons too. We choose faith and obedience, yet circumstances grow harder. Even then we must remember: this is the pathway by which God’s promise comes to pass. However painful the present looks, at the end of the road stands God’s good plan.

In their trouble the Israelites sought help not from God but from Pharaoh. True help, however, does not come from earthly rulers but from the Lord. As a child runs to a parent in distress, so believers must run first to God. He knows our situation and knows us better than we know ourselves.

Eventually the people turned against Moses, blaming him for their pain. Still, God advanced His work in the midst of their unbelief. The journey of faith always includes trials, but beyond them waits God’s astonishing grace and blessing.
