출애굽기 2장은 단순히 모세의 출생 이야기가 아니라, 하나님께서 한 사람을 준비하시는 이야기입니다. 모세는 이스라엘의 위대한 지도자가 되었지만, 하나님께서는 그를 즉시 사용하지 않으셨습니다. 오히려 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 준비시키셨습니다.

바로가 히브리 남아들을 모두 나일강에 던지라고 명령하던 시절, 모세의 부모 아므람과 요게벳은 믿음으로 아이를 석 달 동안 숨겼습니다. 히브리서 11장 23절은 말합니다. “믿음으로 모세가 났을 때에 그 부모가 아름다운 아임을 보고 석달 동안 숨겨 왕의 명령을 무서워하지 아니하였으며.”

그들이 본 ‘아름다움’은 외적인 아름다움이 아니라 하나님께 구별된 생명이었습니다. 믿음으로 아이를 숨기고, 하나님께서 지키실 것을 믿었던 것입니다. 결국 요게벳은 갈대상자를 만들어 역청으로 방수하여 나일강에 띄웠고, 하나님의 섭리로 바로의 딸이 그 아이를 발견합니다.

놀랍게도 바로의 딸은 그 아이를 불쌍히 여겼고, 모세의 누이 미리암은 재치 있게 제안했습니다. “히브리 여인 중에 유모를 불러 젖을 먹이게 하리이까?” 하나님께서는 그 제안을 통하여 모세의 어머니가 모세를 유모로서 다시 품게 하셨습니다. 그것도 삯을 받으며 말입니다. 하나님의 섭리는 완전합니다. 우연처럼 보이지만, 하나님 안에는 결코 우연이 없습니다.

준비된 사람을 사용하신 하나님

모세는 바로의 궁에서 최고의 교육과 훈련을 받으며 자랐습니다. 그러나 하나님은 그를 즉시 지도자로 세우지 않으셨습니다. 세상의 학문은 배웠지만, 하나님의 일을 감당할 영적 준비는 아직 되어 있지 않았기 때문입니다.

모세는 히브리 동족이 억압당하는 것을 보고 애굽 사람을 쳐죽였습니다. 정의감에서 비롯된 행동이었지만, 하나님의 뜻을 묻지 않은 성급한 행동이었습니다. 하나님은 그를 통해 일하시려 했지만, 아직은 때가 아니었습니다. 그래서 하나님은 그를 광야로 이끄셨습니다. 그곳에서 모세는 40년 동안 하나님의 음성을 배우며, 인내와 순종을 훈련받습니다.

믿음은 기다림입니다

출애굽기 2장 23~25절은 이렇게 말합니다. “여러 해 후에 애굽 왕은 죽었고 이스라엘 자손은 고된 노동으로 말미암아 탄식하며 부르짖으니… 하나님이 그들의 고통 소리를 들으시고 하나님이 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 세운 그의 언약을 기억하사.”

하나님은 언제나 언약을 기억하십니다. 때로는 침묵하시는 것처럼 보이지만, 그분의 일하심은 멈추지 않습니다. 하나님의 시간은 결코 늦지 않습니다. 우리가 그분을 신뢰하고 기다릴 때, 하나님은 약속을 성취하십니다.

묵상

하나님은 오늘도 당신의 일을 이루기 위해 사람을 준비하고 계십니다. 광야의 시간, 기다림의 시간은 결코 버려진 시간이 아닙니다. 그것은 하나님이 우리를 다듬으시고 사용하시기 위한 거룩한 준비의 시간입니다.

하나님은 오늘도 준비된 사람을 찾으십니다.
믿음으로 기다리고 순종하는 사람,
하나님의 때를 기다리는 사람을 통해
구원의 역사는 계속 이어지고 있습니다.

The One Whom God Prepares — Moses

Exodus chapter 2 is not merely about the birth of Moses; it is a story of how God prepares a person for His divine purpose. Moses would become one of the greatest leaders in history, but God did not use him right away. Instead, He shaped him slowly and intentionally.

During the time when Pharaoh commanded that every Hebrew baby boy be thrown into the Nile, Moses’ parents, Amram and Jochebed, hid their son by faith for three months. Hebrews 11:23 says, “By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.”

What they saw was not mere physical beauty — it was a divine sign of purpose. They trusted God to protect what He had set apart. When Jochebed could hide the child no longer, she made a papyrus basket, sealed it with tar and pitch, and placed it among the reeds of the Nile. God’s providence guided Pharaoh’s daughter to that very place, and she was moved with compassion.

By divine arrangement, Moses’ sister Miriam suggested that a Hebrew woman be found to nurse the baby — and thus, Moses’ own mother was chosen. She was even paid to raise her son. God’s providence is always perfect; there are no coincidences in His plan.

God Uses Those Who Are Prepared

Moses grew up in Pharaoh’s palace, receiving the best education and training in Egypt. Yet God did not send him out immediately as a deliverer. Though Moses had learned worldly wisdom, he still needed to be trained in spiritual wisdom. God’s preparation was not complete.

Seeing an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, Moses struck and killed the Egyptian. His act came from passion, not from divine guidance. Though called, he was not yet ready. So God led him into the wilderness of Midian. For forty years, Moses learned to listen, to wait, and to obey. The palace had taught him how to lead; the wilderness would teach him how to depend on God.

Faith Is Waiting

Exodus 2:23–25 says, “The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out… and God heard their groaning and remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

God never forgets His promises. His silence is not His absence. Even when we cannot see Him working, He is shaping the future. God’s timing is never late; His plans unfold exactly when they should.

Reflection

God is still preparing people for His purposes today. The seasons of waiting, the hidden years, and the wilderness experiences are not wasted. They are sacred seasons of refinement, where faith is deepened and character is formed.

God still looks for prepared people —
those who wait in faith, walk in obedience,
and trust in His perfect timing.
Through such people, His redemptive story continues.
