“하나님은 완전하신 부르심으로 우리를 세우신다”

모세의 소명 이야기는 하나님과의 대화에서 시작됩니다. 하나님은 “이제 가라”고 하셨지만, 모세는 계속 주저합니다. “그들이 내 말을 믿지 않을 것입니다”(4:1). 도망자의 신분이었던 모세에게 그 사명은 너무도 버거워 보였습니다. 그러나 하나님은 지팡이와 손, 나일강의 표징을 통해 그분이 모든 권세를 다스리시는 주권자이심을 보여주십니다. 세상 권세도, 사람의 시선도 하나님 앞에서는 아무것도 아닙니다. 믿음의 사람은 세상의 눈보다 하나님의 부르심을 더 크게 보는 사람입니다.

🔸 1. 믿음보다 두려움이 클 때

모세는 끊임없이 “나는 말이 둔하다”며 자신을 핑계합니다. 그러나 하나님은 “누가 사람의 입을 지었느냐”(4:11) 하시며, 인간의 한계를 아시는 동시에 그 한계를 채우시는 분이심을 선언하십니다. 우리의 신앙도 마찬가지입니다. 하나님이 부르실 때 우리는 늘 부족함을 먼저 봅니다. 그러나 하나님은 능력 있는 자를 부르시는 분이 아니라, 부르신 자를 능력 있게 하시는 분입니다.

🔸 2. 하나님은 포기하지 않으신다

모세는 무려 다섯 번이나 부르심을 거절했습니다. 그러나 하나님은 그를 포기하지 않으시고, 형 아론을 붙여주십니다. 하나님의 부르심은 결코 실패하지 않습니다. 우리가 아무리 주저해도, 하나님은 당신의 뜻을 이루실 때까지 기다리십니다. 그러나 그 기다림의 시간이 길어질수록 우리의 광야의 시간도 길어집니다. 지체하지 말고 즉시 순종할 때, 광야의 시간이 단축됩니다.

🔸 3. 순종에는 회개의 결단이 따라야 한다

길을 가던 중, 하나님이 모세를 죽이려 하셨다는 사건(4:24–26)은 언뜻 이해하기 어렵습니다. 그러나 이는 하나님이 모세를 철저히 거룩하게 준비시키시는 장면입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 전하는 자가 먼저 그 말씀에 순종해야 함을 보여줍니다. 모세가 하나님의 언약의 표인 할례를 행하지 않은 상태로 사명을 감당할 수는 없었습니다. 십보라의 결단으로 그 일이 이뤄지자 하나님은 모세를 놓으십니다. 사명 앞에 순종하지 못한 영역을 회개하고 정결케 하실 때, 하나님은 그를 다시 사용하십니다.

🔸 4. 하나님의 사명은 고난 속에서도 이루어진다

하나님은 모세에게 “내가 바로의 마음을 완악하게 하겠다”(4:21)고 하십니다. 즉, 사명의 길이 순탄하지 않을 것을 미리 알려주십니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 모세는 하나님의 지팡이를 손에 잡고 애굽을 향해 나아갑니다. 하나님의 사람은 환경이 아니라 하나님의 권능을 붙잡고 걸어가는 사람입니다. 사명의 길은 쉽지 않지만, 그 길 끝에는 반드시 하나님의 구원이 있습니다.

🔸 결론 — “주저하지 말라, 하나님은 끝까지 이루신다”

모세는 여러 번 거절했지만 결국 순종했습니다. 하나님은 그를 통해 이스라엘을 구원하셨습니다. 우리도 마찬가지입니다. 하나님은 여전히 불완전한 우리를 부르시고, 때로는 깨뜨리며 준비시키십니다. 그러므로 오늘 하나님께서 내게 주신 부르심이 있다면 두려움보다 믿음으로 응답하십시오. 그분은 당신을 포기하지 않으시며, 완전한 계획 가운데 사용하십니다.

“하나님은 완전하신 부르심으로, 불완전한 우리를 완전하게 하신다.”

The story of Moses’ calling begins with a conversation between God and a hesitant servant. God says, “Go,” but Moses keeps resisting: “What if they do not believe me?” (4:1). For a fugitive who once failed in Egypt, such fear was understandable. Yet God reveals a series of signs—the staff, the hand, and the Nile—to show that He alone rules over all authority and power. Human opinions and worldly power fade before the sovereignty of God. True faith sees God’s calling as greater than the world’s gaze.

🔸 1. When Fear Is Greater Than Faith

Moses keeps saying he is slow of speech and tongue. But God answers, “Who gave human beings their mouths?” (4:11). God knows our limits—and fills them with His strength. Our journey of faith is the same. When God calls, we often see our weakness first. But God does not call the capable; He makes the called capable.

Moses refuses God’s command not once, but five times. Still, God does not abandon him. Instead, He sends Aaron as a helper. The call of God never fails. Even when we hesitate, God patiently works until His purpose is fulfilled. But the longer we delay, the longer our wilderness becomes. Immediate obedience shortens the wilderness.

🔸 3. Obedience Requires Repentance

On the road to Egypt, we find a strange scene: “At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses and was about to kill him” (4:24). It seems shocking—yet it reveals God’s holiness in preparing His servant. Moses could not proclaim God’s covenant while ignoring it himself. He had not circumcised his own son, the very sign of the covenant people. Through Zipporah’s quick action, Moses’ household was restored to obedience. Before God entrusts us with His work, He first calls us to be clean. Repentance is the doorway to a life of divine usefulness.

🔸 4. The Calling Will Face Hardship

God warns Moses, “I will harden Pharaoh’s heart” (4:21). In other words, the path of calling will not be smooth. Even though Moses obeys, God allows resistance to remain. Why? Because in struggle, God trains His servant and reveals His power. Moses carries the “staff of God” in his hand—the symbol of divine authority. He does not go in his own strength but in God’s power. Faith does not walk by circumstance; it walks by the power of His promise. The road of obedience may be rough, but it always leads to redemption.

Moses resisted God again and again, but in the end, he obeyed—and through him, God delivered Israel. The same is true for us. God still calls imperfect people, shapes them through discipline, and uses them for His glory. When God calls you, do not delay because of fear or self-doubt. He will complete what He has begun.
